is designed for six months semester system. The course Bachelor of Business
Information Management (BIM) emphasizes on language and communication skills
which required for general and professional contexts. Through the grammar section,
all the students can apply their linguistic competency to their daily
communicative purposes. Mainly ENG 206 has divided into Part one: A guide to
the use of A Communicative Grammar of English book, Part two: Grammar in use
and part three A-Z in English Grammar. In this way whole course focused
grammatical correction. Everywhere we can found simple and applied grammar. The
name of BIM English book is "A communicative Grammar of English" this
book is written by Leech and Jan Svartvik. It is special for Nepal edition
which is published by one of the world famous Rutledge publication from London
and New York.
In BIM second semester students
have learned the Business Communication. The writer of this books are Raymand
V. Lesikar, Marie. E Flatley, Kathryn Rentz, Poula Lenz and Neerja Pande. In
the preface of this book , there is chapter wise short description about the
book. The whole book is divided into 6 different parts systematically. The
first part focused workplace communication; cultural matter in language
function, part two is fundamentals of business writing. This part focuses
constructing clear sentence and paragraph. Part three is basic patterns of
business messages in the same way part 4 is for report writing and part five is
oral communication, at the last part, part 6 gives finishing in writing.
Comparing with BIM first, the II and
semester is very practical and specially focused on advanced writing. Comparing
with BBS First years English and BIM English is quite easier than BBS English
course syllabus are nearly same.
With the reference of BIM teaching
method, BBS English teaching method also suggested theme and writing task. So
the goal of English teaching is to expand student's intellectual and spiritual
horizons. Evaluation process will cover the language skills and include a range
of tasks which assess students' ability.
In accordance with grade 12's
compulsory English course, both BBS and BIM English courses are far harder. The
difficulty level is not matched with student's actual level of understanding.
BIM compulsory English syllabus focused more theoretical factor than BBS. The
cause of BIM is shorter than BBS. For the teacher BBS English course is lengthy
to finished all course in a academic year. And BIM English course (first
semester and second semester) is not so long it is suitable for semester
program. BIM first semester course focused grammatical aspect and II semester
course focused reading and writing.
BBS & BIM Course for the Students of Karnali Province
Both courses are difficult for
Karnali province's students. To fulfill the special and general objective of
curriculum both teacher and student are suggested to work hard every day. Every
minute of classroom teaching should be fruitful. Teacher must manage her time
according to follow the syllabus. Without students' obedience and disciplined
the course will not produce its own sound. Focus group discussion,
conversation, topic speaking, topic writing, letter writing, listening
practice, grammar and vocabulary learning, grammar practice work sheets will be
supported factor for improving English. Both teacher and student should make
English speaking policy in campus area. It will make English as normal subject.
Foreign authors books mentioned international standard course. Both courses
designed for getting high standard in English.
Conclusion
The curriculum designed by the
Tribhuvan University for BBS and BIM is to promote the several managerial,
business & commercial knowledge, skills and attitude. However English is
taught in BBS First Year as well as BIM First and Second Semester. Comparing
the English syllabus of BBS and BIM both useful for theoretical and practical
purposes. The course designed for BIM First and Second semester has highlighted
the practical aspects of English grammar and communication. The book ''A
Communicative Grammar of English" has focused on the context based use of
grammar rather than using it on rule and theory. In the same line Business
Communication designed for 2nd Semester has incorporated all the skills and
ability promotion activities for both writing and speaking. The English course designed
for BBS is somehow more abstract but it helps to conceptualize the concept
properly which obviously help them to build confidence and use it as per the
need and necessity. Finally the teacher who teaches this course should have
knowledge and understanding about the objectives, pedagogic guidelines, classroom
management and overall assessment system then only the students can achieve the
goals of the course.
