Introduction
The latest development of science and
technology has brought huge change on the every aspects of life. The education,
engagement and entertainment of the children is being narrowed down towards the
dependents of gadgets. Many people happily welcome the digital resources for
their children, as it has become the part of everybody's life. When we simply
observe our home and offices we are surrounded by the different types of modern
electronic devices. In this scenario the children subconsciously spend their
more than 60% time with the TV, Tab and Video Games.
Discussion
There are people who like to advocate
the use of TV for watching cartoon. What they suggest is cartoon not only as a
tool of entertainment but the very cartoon also teaches so many social and
moral lessons. The idea raised in opposition highlights the drawbacks of
cartoon in the life of children. Rather
than having long and deep discussion, it is better to make a list of merits and demerits of cartoon for children.
The debate for and against the TV and
Video Games is different in developed and developing countries. More
specifically the use of TV and Video Games in the rich and poor families is
different. In rich family children might have option whether to spend their
times with the mother or TV but in the poor family, there is no option because
many mothers of poor/middle family have to work for the livelihood of the
family.
We have to explore the condition of
mother because they are in different conditions based on socio-economic as well
as cultural aspects.
One of the popular agency which work
in the field of children and mother named The American Academy of Pediatrics(AAP) takes a "better-safe-than-sorry" stance on TV for young
children. APP further suggests that parents may fall into temptation to put
their kids in front of the television, especially to watch shows created just
for children under age two. According to American Academy of Pediatrics not to
do it is a wise decision. This reference directly discourage you if you are
thinking to leave your young child in front of TV screen when you are busy at
your other professional or personal works.
For example, the mothers of Pakistan
have different expectation in comparison to American mothers. The Muslim mother
does not have much more pressure to go out and work for the family but the
condition and expectation of Christian mothers have obviously different i.e.
she has to go out and work for herself and the family.
Merits/Strengths/ Pros of watching cartoons or playing video games
1. Busy parents can manage the time for their work and rest.
2. Children can learn many social and moral lessons from various TV
serials and cartoons.
3. Children normally love to watch cartoons and play games, which surely
makes them happy.
4. The reflection of real societies and future life as well as struggle
is projected in a more childish pattern.
5 Last but not least, those children who have the access of TV, Tab and
Video Games are smarter than those who either do not have access or are not
allowed to watch and play.
Demerits/Weaknesses/ Cons of watching cartoons or playing video games
1. The first and more convincing idea
is children who watch TV Cartoon, Tab and Video Games all these are artificial
things that lead the child far from natural resources.
2. The cause of more than half of the
physical and psychological problems is digital resources. For example, eyesight
problems, overweight, unsocial nature etc.
3. Many researches and studies have
proved that those children who spend more time with gadgets are aggressive with
family members and friends.
4. The psychological bond between parents and children becomes colder which may cause many problems in future.
(Mother spending time with her twin sons)
5. Last but not least, for the better
future, every child should be exposed more with society rather than gadgets
because s/he has to struggle in the society in future.
Conclusion
By observing, all these points once
can easily be confirmed that the relation of children with digital resources is
neither negative nor positive in itself. But the parents need to be more
responsible than ever before. The child can easily play and watch for both
entertainment and education. What is played and watched matters. There should be the specific types of material
and the already specified schedule. If possible it is always better to watch
and play both children and the parents.
